Efficient, closed-loop, and cost-effective, our Green Facility can achieve your environmental goals.

A Green Facility for recovering and transforming waste into renewable energy and valuable commodities.

The cost of not going green is ever increasing.

Global goals and guidelines are being developed and the timelines are looming. Not only is environmental responsibility better for the health of the planet, it is becoming fiscally responsible as well. Tarifs and taxes are being proposed for companies, cities and countries that do not adhere to the new global guidelines.

The United Nations have adopted the Sustainable Development Guidelines (SDG) as a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

The IMO (International Maritime Organization) introduced the Greenhouse Gas Strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and 70% carbon intensity reduction by 2050. In June 2021, they adopted the EEXI (Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index) and CII (Carbon Intensity Indicator) as two new mandatory measures to benchmark its 2030 target to reduce emissions.

The European Union has established the Action Plan for a Circular Economy, the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Act 2021 to reduce carbon emissions. The EU also initiated the Landfill Directive to limit the share of municipal waste landfilled to 10% by 2035.

The Vital Waste Conversion Gasification technology does its part in helping adhere to these guidelines and goals. And we do so with an efficient, closed-loop, cost-effective process.

Helping meet 11 of the 16 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Cleaner than any other waste to energy process

Traditional waste to energy systems have primarily been incineration systems, which thermally oxidize the waste, discharging significant quantities of NOx, SOx, Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), and heavy metals. Our proprietary Waste Conversion technology utilizes air-fed (for electrical systems), and oxygen-fed (for synthetic fuel systems) gasification systems to process the waste into synthesis gas using thermal reduction. This synthesis gas is then converted into liquid through an advanced conversion process.

The Vital Waste Conversion Gasification technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to landfills by more than 92 percent. Carbon capture systems could be added to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 99 percent.

Regenerative design

Regenerative design goes beyond sustainability. Where sustainability intends ‘to do no further harm’, regenerative design’s focus is actively ‘doing further good’.

We use regenerative design to make our Waste Transformation Design not only efficient, but to ‘give back’. Our system mitigates air, soil and water pollution by repurposing the waste in existing landfills, reusing or recycling inorganic materials, and converting organics to green electricity and synthetic fuels.

Sustainability means ‘status quo’. We believe that’s not enough. Our goal is to leave a positive impact on the environment.

No municipal water

All leachate and wastewater from the facility is treated to boiler feedwater standards and is used as makeup water for the facility. The Method will not connect to the municipal water supply, will use no city water, and will not discharge any water to the municipal sewer system. As a result, the Method reuses 100 percent of the process and wastewater, qualifying the system as a Green Facility.

Super low emissions

Our air pollution control system includes cyclones, acid gas removal unit, ammonia scrubber, electrostatic precipitator, carbon adsorption unit, bag house with carbon injection, and stack. The air pollution control system reduces emissions concentrations by more than 3 orders of magnitude for particulate matter, heavy metals, dioxins/furans, and VOCs compared to the flue gas concentration, which qualifies our solution as a Green Energy System.

The Vital Waste Conversion Gasification process is the only solution that sorts waste to remove inert materials, dries the waste (at no cost), using synthesis gas, and converts the carbon in the ash into synthesis gas. The result is a thermal efficiency increase of over 100 percent.

The most efficient waste to energy system

For decades, the professionals at Vital Energy have designed waste to energy facilities and converted waste into clean, green, renewable RDF. Our goal is to provide a system that not only generates renewable fuel and energy sources and reduced landfills, it does so in the cleanest, most environmentally friendly, most efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Gasification system

Our process uses conventional gasification, which is cleaner, and more cost-effective than any other waste to energy technology.

Sorting

Our design sorts the waste on sorting lines to remove metals, glass, concrete, rock, soil, e-waste, and special wastes containing heavy metals. This reduces the ash content from 20 percent to less than 5 percent, and increases thermal efficiency by about 35 percent.

Synthesis Gas treatment

For power plant projects, we include a cyclone to treat synthesis gas prior to combustion, thus reducing ash loading and extending the life of the HRSG boiler.

Electrical generation

We use a very high efficiency multi-stage, high temperature and pressure steam turbine and generator to electrical generation. The efficiency of the system is on the order of 0.8 to 1.1 MWh/tonne of RDF, which is more than twice as efficient as incineration, pyrolysis, and plasma systems, and more than 10 times as efficient as landfill gas generation, biomethanization, and anaerobic digestion systems.

Preheating

We’ve added a waste dryer to preheat the waste going into the gasifier, and recover water from the waste. Drying the waste increases the thermal efficiency by up to 65 percent. The water is treated to boiler feedwater standards, and is used as makeup water.

Operating costs

The Vital Waste Conversion Gasification process provides high-energy output at a very low capital and operating cost, as compared to waste to energy incineration systems, plasma systems, or even other gasification systems.

Maximized reuse and recycling

More than 95% of the municipal solid waste is either recycled or reused. Less than 5% ash/slag and unacceptable materials are created.  With our Waste Transformation Design, air emissions are more than 100 times lower than Air Quality Standards. Sulfur concentrations in the fuel are less than 15 ppb, and 100 percent of the water in the waste is treated and reused as makeup or cooling water. This makes the our Waste Conversion Design a green system with respect to Air Quality, Water Quality, Solids, and Fuel.

Long, reliable design life

The Vital Waste Conversion Gasification technology is proven to be highly energy efficient, with a 30 year design life, and 94 percent up time efficiency.
